Both yoga and Pilates need little to no equipment for exercise. For yoga, all you need is a mat. Pilates further requires a few props such as a Pilates ring or a block, depending on the technique you are going to use. Both of these practices have a keen focus on breathing techniques and the relaxation of muscles, and result in a soothing sensation for the mind and the body.

By emphasizing on improving the breathing techniques, these help with breathing issues and aid those suffering from respiratory diseases. These techniques require mental focus and help with anxiety issues as well. Built up anxiety and unaddressed issues can lead to severe depression. By incorporating yoga in daily routine, you can keep yourself from going down the spiral.

One should decide after consulting with a professional to first assess the nature of the injury so as to avoid putting extreme pressure on joints when trying to do Pilates.

Overall, both practices are a great way to freshen up the mind and keep the body in good shape. As long you are doing something to relax your mind and are giving breathing space to your body, it doesn’t matter whether you opt for yoga or Pilates. Exercise should be about having fun, as much as it is for maintaining good health.

Choosing after experimenting with both and understanding the difference it will help you make an informed decision and opt for one that really agrees with your mind and body.
